Home-made Basic Bread Loaf

Enjoy the lovely flavour, texture and colour of a delicious bread prepared at home from scratch in a short time. Baking this bread at home is not hard! You can even add your favourite herbs to it – basil, oregano, Italian herbs. The more you bake the more you will fall in love with it. The flavour of homemade bread tastes so good with chai or coffee! You can even use it for making bread pizza with your favourite toppings.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED:

Whole wheat flour 1.5 cups
All purpose flour 1 cup
Salt 1/2 tsp
Honey 1 tbsp
Instant dry yeast 3/4 tbsp
Warm water 1 cup
Olive Oil 1 tbsp
Italian herbs or any other herbs you like 2 tbsp
Sesame Seeds (to sprinkle on top)

METHOD:

  • In a large deep bowl, out warm water and add honey to the water
  • Add the instant dry yeast and let the yeast froth for a few minutes
  • Once the yeast is well dissolved, add the whole wheat flour and all-purpose flour to the yeast mix and make a smooth dough. (add a bit of luke warm water if needed)
  • You can add Italian herbs or your favourite herbs and a pinch of salt to the dough
  • Grease the baking dish with olive oil (a rectangular shape or any shape you like the bread to look like) and place the smooth dough onto the greased dish
  • Cover the dish with a cooking towel or a cling wrap and set aside for 1-1.5 hours, this will help the dough to rise
  • After  1.5 hours you would have noticed that the dough has risen, sprinkle the sesame seeds on top
  • Pre-heat the oven few minutes before placing the baking dish at 400°F. Bake the dough for around 30 minutes or until it turns golden brown
  • Remove and let it cool for few minutes, you can now slice your loaf
