Chaat Time

If you are away from home like I am – you must be missing the crazy colourful street markets and the chaat bhaiyas!
Missing some tangy chaats and golgappe? Here’s a papri chaat recipe that you can enjoy at home. The preperation for chaat is easy and can be done in advance and kept.

You need boiled chickpeas, boiled potatoes, papri (any Indian store will have it) masalas and yogurt.


Overnight soaked and boiled chickpeas 1/2 cup
Boiled potatoes 2
Papri 8-10 rounds
Cilantro 1/4 cup (chopped) or just for garnish
Chaat masala
Plain Yogurt 2 cups
Saunth Chutney 3 tbsp (see recipe here)
Salt to taste
Black salt 1/4 tsp
Hing or Asafoetida a pinch


  • In a bowl place papri, boiled potatoes chopped into small squares and boiled chickpeas
  • Add the dry ingredients – chaat masala, black salt, salt, hing
  • Pour yogurt over the ingredients and mix well add the saunth chutney
  • Garnish with cilantro and serve
